The Seibo.- Lhe Permanent Commission of National Ephemeris, the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Education, the Provincial Government of El Seibo and the City Council of El Seibo, commemorated the 214th anniversary of the Battle of Palo Hincado, where an army commanded by Cotuisan Juan Sánchez Ramírez defeated the French troops of General Ferrand, on November 7, 1808.
The act began at 8:00 in the morning with the raising of the National Flag and interpretation of the National Anthem, by the Music Band and a company from the Army of the Dominican Republic, in the Civil Government, and immediately a patriotic walk made up of civil authorities, students, teachers and citizens in general.
Then, at 8:30 am, the parish priest Ricardo Then officiated the Tedeum in the Santísima Cruz Church. The acts continued with the reading of the order of the day, by the Ministry of Defense and military style honors to the hero of the Battle of Palo Hincado, Brigadier Juan Sánchez Ramírez.
The civil and military authorities made the deposit of floral offerings, in time with the offering touch.
The Municipal Mayor of El Seibo, Leo Francis Zorrilla, offered the words of welcome and a historical overview of the deed, and Irene Martínez de la Cruz, Provincial Civil Governor, said that the Battle of Palo Hincado was the great battle of the War of the Reconquest of the colony of Santo Domingo (today the Dominican Republic). They also spoke, Betania Severino, director of the Educational District 12-03 and Santiago Zorrilla, senator of the El Seibo province. The act was also attended by Rear Admiral Anthony Jiminián Objío, Director of the Joint Command East of the Armed Forces.
