National emergency declared for femicides

The argument of the project states that there is another pandemic that is plaguing women in our country today, which is violence and in this sense, the proposal intends to reflect the commitment to the right to life of Paraguayan women.

The purpose of the proposed amendments to this national emergency declaration law for femicide is to provide an immediate response to the problems of violence suffered by women. This law will complement the actions that must be carried out according to the provisions of Law 5,777/2016 “On the comprehensive protection of women against all types of violence and its regulatory decree to prevent, punish and eradicate violence against women”.

It is worth mentioning that this regulation would not incur extraordinary expenses, but rather, seeks to optimize available resources. Likewise, with these modifications to the current legislation, the aim is to reduce the number of women victims of femicide, of other forms of violence and to respond immediately to problems related to the integrity and safety of women.

Unanimously those present approved the bill and It was sent to the Chamber of Deputies for its consideration.
