The Unitary Platform will continue with the organizational work of the country, will seek rapprochements with other political organizations and will work for the conditions for the presidential election «Venezuela, count on us. Long live democratic Venezuela,” said Omar Barboza
The National Commission of Primaries (CP), chosen by the Unitary Platform, was installed, during an act held, this Tuesday, November 15, at the El Hatillo Amphitheater.
With this step, the opposition coalition takes another step on the road to the election of its presidential standard-bearer. In October, the platform approved the primary regulations, but it will be up to the National Commission to untie important knots such as the admission of the postulated candidates and the request, or not, of logistical support to the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The CP chose lawyer and academic Jesús María Casal as president, while María Carolina Uzcátegui, former president of Consecomercio, will be the Vice President. During his intervention, Casal informed that the Commission will convene a consultation process, to strengthen the primaries, with civil society and members of political organizations.
Casal indicated that the primary elections should lead to the choice of the presidential candidate, with the particularity that it be placed at the service of Venezuelan society. “This is a primaries for democracy,” he stressed.
He urged the citizen to accompany the process. In turn, she pointed out the importance of deliberations taking place, even if the results do not please everyone.
For the President of the National Primary Commission, the process should be a modeling experience for the presidential elections.
At the same time, he stressed that the primaries are surrounded by uncertainty in aspects such as the date of the presidential election, the reaction of the government apparatus and even costs.
Casal added that an important challenge will be to rescue the value of the vote, even in conditions like those in which the country lives. In his speech, the lawyer asked not to add hate. He points out that the negotiation in Mexico can be a great ally of the primary elections. “Hopefully the primary elections serve to shore up the union among Venezuelans,” he pointed out.
During the act, Omar Barboza, executive secretary of the Unitary Platform, said that unity for change will bring a different future for the country.
He recalled that, according to the regulations, the Primaries Commission is the governing body of the opposition electoral process. “This political leadership has made the historic decision to hand over the leadership of the primaries to civil society,” he pointed out.
He added that, meanwhile, the Unitary Platform will continue with the organizational work of the country, will seek rapprochements with other political organizations and will work for the conditions for the presidential election «Venezuela, count on us. Long live democratic Venezuela,” said Omar Barboza.
