National Colegio de Journalists demands release from Roland Carreño

For more than five months, the journalist and operating coordinator of Popular Will, Roland Carreño, is being held in the El Helicoid prison, in Caracas, after being charged with the crimes of terrorism, betrayal of the homeland and association to commit crimes


The National School of Journalist (CNP) demanded the release of Roland Carreño, an activist who is part of said profession of professionals, who turned five months imprisoned at the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) of El Helicoid, west of the west of the Capital City.

Through an X message, the CNP Caracas section denounced the arbitrary detention of the communicator, who was arrested on August 2 and incommunicado. Carreño was presented to the courts and processed with two other opposition leaders for the alleged crimes of terrorism, betrayal of the homeland and association to commit crimes.

The union institution denounced that in Venezuela there is a policy that seeks to criminalize dissent and opinion. Similarly, they warned that the rights to freedom of expression, to protest and criticisms “are cornered” by said State policy.

The Inter -American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) He granted precautionary measures on August 17 after considering that he is in a situation of gravity and urgency of risk of irreparable damage to his rights in Venezuela.
