Luanda, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Angola is working to carry out a general population and housing census in 2024, confirmed an official source in the week ending today, marked by electoral preparations.
This African nation went almost 40 years without carrying out a socioeconomic and demographic survey of this nature, whose statistics constitute a fundamental tool for political, economic and social agents, the Secretary of State for Planning, Milton Reis, recalled at a press conference.
After the 2014 census, we do not want to waste the Executive’s effort to resume this practice, given the importance of information for decision-making, argued the representative of the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
In this regard, the specialist requested the greatest support from civil society so that the information collected can reflect the current country.
Regarding the general elections, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) announced the day before the approval of the slogan for the process, as well as the companies that could offer logistical and technological support.
“Vote for peace, democracy and development”, that was the slogan chosen, CNE spokesman Lucas Quilundo told the press, who confirmed the selection of the KPMP-LTI consortium to provide transport services for the election logistics.
While the Spanish firm Indra won the contest inherent to the services for the acquisition of the technological solution and electoral logistics, the official said.
Quilundo also notified that the CNE created six commissions to evaluate the media acquisition process.
According to preliminary estimates, around 12 million Angolans will be able to participate in the next general elections in August.
