Madrid, Spain.- The National Baseball Commission (CNB) announced the disciplinary sanctions against Sancti Spíritus, Eriel Sánchez León, and the Eusebio Technical Commissioner Miguel Rojas Rodríguez, for the Incident occurred on September 27 at the José Antonio strike stadium.
According to the official note, both incurred a “very serious indiscipline”, typified in article 17, subsection C, of the disciplinary regulation of the competitive baseball system.
As a consequence, the CNB agreed to impose the following measures: five -year suspension for Eriel Sánchez León and three -year suspension for Eusebio Miguel Rojas Rodríguez.
The altercation occurred after the match between Sancti Spíritus and the island of Youth. At that time, witnesses said that Sanchez hit Red with a bat, and caused a head injury that required five suture points. The police were notified and the National Commission opened a disciplinary investigation with a period of 30 days to issue their ruling.

In its statement, the CNB indicates that the incident began by the claim of a play. After the end of the meeting, Sánchez went “broken” to the technical table, which caused an exchange of offenses with Rojas. Despite the guidance of not having more approaches that day, the commissioner went to Sánchez “challenging him”, and in the middle of the altercation the manager hit him with a wooden object, not with a bat, as he had initially secured.
The agency described the episode as “totally avoidable”, the result of the “irresponsible act” of both protagonists, and stressed that facts like this are contrary to the values of the Cuban sports system.
This fact adds to other recent episodes of indiscipline in the national series, such as clashes between players and referees, which have deteriorated the image of the championship.
