The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) participated in the first massive event called “Panama Creative City and Gastronomy” at the Archaeological Site of Panama Viejo through its Cultural and Intangible Heritage and Creative Economy directorates, a program that has been reported as part of of our commitment to UNESCO.
Twenty-six artisans participated in the artisan path, who sold items such as: handbags, belts, sandals, cutarras, slippers, pinta’o hats, skirts, shirts, tembleques, typical jewelry and Creole food, etc. Within the program were the Tancubo workshops, a training “Entrepreneurship in Gastronomy is entrepreneurship in Culture”. The children enjoyed the activities that we gave in the children’s area with dance and painting classes taught by the teacher Nilka Batista and Liliana Carreño.
The participation of the National Ballet of Panama shone with the famous Satoko Konishi and Pedro Patermina and all the dancers who demonstrated their professionalism techniques on the artistic stage in Panama Viejo. MiCultura, in alliance with the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), presented the 4-13 Orchestra, which delighted with a repertoire of songs that made the audience dance.

Ellis Newman, National Director of Creative Industries, stated that this project is committed to culture and creativity as the engine and developer of the sustainable urban engine with the support of the Panama City Hall and the Ministry of Culture.
Panama was designated in October 2017 as the first city in Central America of the seal granted by UNESCO of “Creative City in Gastronomy”.
