National Ballet of Panama celebrates its golden anniversary with “Giselle”

Since its first presentation in August 1972, the National Ballet began a growth that has allowed its dancers national and international training, achieving recognition that shows the high artistic level that has been achieved to such an extent that many have been chosen to represent Panama in various international dance competitions.

Regarding the play “Giselle”, Gloria Barrios, executive director of the National Ballet of Panama stressed that “the cast is preparing with all the love and with a lot of discipline. A classic like this requires very meticulous work.”

Likewise, Barrios indicated that “this is one of the ballets in the world classical repertoire and any professional company, such as the National Ballet of Panama, has the responsibility to do it in the best way and we will do so in order to share this ballet piece with our audience as part of our anniversary gala to be held at the National Theater”.

On the occasion of the celebration of fifty years, Barrios stressed that “this company has been training several generations of dancers for five decades, which is why this celebration is of great importance and responsibility, because it is to continue with the work that has been done during these years.

Among the activities to be highlighted to celebrate 50 years are free presentations at the National Theater from August 18 to 21, an itinerant exhibition on the history of the national ballet that can be seen at the Hotel Bristol Panamá, the Juan Manuel Cedeño gallery of MiCultura , shopping centers, among others.

Meanwhile, Giselle González Villarrué, during her speech at the press conference, held at the Bristol Panama Hotel, thanked the dancers, directors, choreographers and the entire National Ballet team for their vision, enthusiasm and courage to carry out the dreams that have built the history of this dance company.

“Panama is one of the few countries that have state-owned ballet companies in Latin America, this has deserved a significant investment throughout all these years, which has definitely been worth it!”, highlighted the head of the Panamanian cultural portfolio , inviting those present to the scheduled activities.

For her part, Evelyn Cáceres, marketing manager of the Hotel Bristol Panamá, a company that joins this celebration as a sponsor, mentioned that “we are a place with more than 25 years in the art of Panamanian hospitality, a hotel that supports one hundred percent art and culture are part of our vision and our pillars, so since the campaign was presented to us, we decided to give all our support to this project because it is important to highlight the 50 years of ballet and share this celebration”.
