National Ballet of Cuba on tour through eastern provinces

From March 3 to 13, the National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of Viengsay Valdés, will tour the eastern region of the country, the institution reported in a press release.

The tour includes presentations of the classic Coppélia, from 3 to 5, at the Heredia Theater, in Santiago de Cuba, as well as a concert program that will be offered at the Bayamo and Manzanillo theaters, in the cities of the same name, and the Eddy Suñol Theater, from Holguin.

Coppélia is a ballet in three acts in a version by Alicia Alonso based on the original choreography by Arthur Saint-Léon and the subsequent one by Marius Petipa, music by Léo Delibes and designs by Ricardo Reymena.

In addition to prima ballerina Anette Delgado, other promising artists who are making their debut in that role will act in the role of Swanilda: Chanell Cabrera, Daniela Gómez and Chavela Riera.

As Franz, the first dancer Dani Hernández will perform, along with newcomers Darío Hernández, Narciso Medina and Yankiel Vázquez, while the character of Dr. Coppélius will be assumed for the first time by Dani Hernández, Yansiel Pujada, Pablo Lagomasino.

In addition to the pas de deux of the third act of Coppélia, the functions that will take place in Bayamo (7 and 8), Manzanillo (9) and Holguín (11 and 12) will include Love Fear Loss, choreography by Ricardo Amarante with music by Édith Piaf , Margueritte Monnot, Jacques Brel and Charles Dumont; and The Death of a Swan, by Michel Descombey, with music by Saint-Säens.

The program also includes the duet of Othello and Desdemona from Prologue to a Tragedy, by Brian MacDonald, with music by Johann Sebastian Bach; Spring Waters, by Asaf Messerer with music by Serguei Rachmaninov; Winter, by Ely Regina Hernández, with music by Tchaikovsky; Generic Suite, by Alberto Méndez with music by Handel and Haydn; and Majísimo, by Jorge García, with music by Massenet.
