The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) announced the suspension of its functions scheduled for this Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9, due to the illness of several of its members, a situation that responds to the current epidemiological situation that the country is going through.
The prestigious company explained that, despite the efforts made to adjust the programs and casts – as happened in the presentation on Friday the 7th – the sudden indisposition of new artists forced the cancellation of the upcoming performances.
In a official statementthe institution specified: “Today we are forced to take this measure due to the unforeseen illness of other of our artists, for which we offer our apologies to the public.”
Likewise, the National Ballet of Cuba reported that the amount of the tickets will be refunded at the theater box office.
The established times for the return are: this Sunday the 9th, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm; and from Monday the 10th to Wednesday the 12th, from 1:00 to 7:00 pm
Health crisis in Cuba, between dengue and chikungunya
The situation occurs in a national context marked by an increase in diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
As reported last Tuesday by the Vice Minister of Public Health, Carilda Peña García, the Cuban health system has served to date 20,062 cases of chikungunyawith the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Camagüey, Cienfuegos, Artemisa and Villa Clara among the most affected.
This epidemiological rebound occurs in the midst of the strong economic crisis that limits the country’s ability to combat the proliferation of the mosquito. Aedes aegyptiaggravated by sanitation problems, leaks and accumulation of waste in different cities.
