National Assembly declares the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago persona non grata

The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, described the administration of Trinidad and Tobago as “a garbage government” and assures that its prime minister “acts under the influence of alcohol.” He also warned them: “When the mouse arrives—the hangover—we will see if they don’t need the gas from Venezuela.”

The National Assembly declared a person unwelcome to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, for considering that she has adopted a “warlike and hostile” stance towards Venezuela by “aligning herself with the militarist agenda of the United States in the Caribbean,” said representative Iris Varela.

The agreement was approved during the ordinary session on Tuesday, October 28, after the intervention of several pro-government deputies, who accused the Trinidadian president of “renouncing the sovereignty of her country” and “attacking regional peace and stability” by authorizing US military exercises in her territory.

According to the text read by Varela, Persad-Bissessar’s actions “constitute a hostile provocation against Venezuela” and a “serious threat to peace in the Caribbean.” Parliament also maintained that the prime minister’s position “contravenes the principles of peaceful coexistence and respect for the sovereignty of States,” as well as the CELAC proclamation that declares Latin America and the Caribbean as a “zone of peace.”

The agreement approved by the Assembly includes six points, among them support for the measures of the Venezuelan Executive to denounce and suspend the energy cooperation framework agreement between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, which included the joint exploitation of the Dragon gas field.

Likewise, the Venezuelan Legislature asked the government of Trinidad and Tobago to “publicly and categorically disassociate itself” from the “war provocations in the Caribbean” and urged to preserve the historical relations of brotherhood between both countries.

During the debate, deputies from the ruling bloc accused the Trinidadian prime minister of having “offered her territory” to the United States “to act against Venezuela”, and of “ignoring” the effects of the US military operations that, according to them, had caused the death of two Trinidadian fishermen in waters near Venezuela.

Parliament also agreed to denounce to international bodies the presence of US warships in the Caribbean, which, according to the text, “cause extrajudicial executions of innocent Latin American and Caribbean citizens”, in violation of international law.

«If you want to be a worm, go and crawl»

The deputy for Primero Justicia (intervened) José Brito insisted to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago: «If you want to be an eagle, fly high. If you want to be a worm, go and crawl, but then don’t scream when they step on you. He said that this is the reality of those who ignore the Trinidadian demonym.

Likewise, he affirmed that Venezuelans have more than enough dignity to defend the nation from foreign attacks.

During his intervention in support of the agreement, Brito assured that Persad-Bissessar “gives up the sovereignty of the Trinidadian territory” by allowing the use of its soil by foreign forces and that its actions “are a veiled threat to a brother people like Venezuela.”

In that sense, he stated that he was willing to resist until the end by fighting for the country: “Let us prepare then so that they are not mistaken, if we have to leave with our feet forward it is more dignified to do so than to die like a dragged worm.”

“We’ll see if they don’t need gas from Venezuela”

For his part, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, supported the statement of deputies Varela and Brito and in a mocking tone indicated that the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago “acts under the influence of alcohol” and that her statements respond to “right-wing extremism.”

He warned them that “when it no longer serves Washington’s purposes, they will throw it away like garbage.”

“When the mouse arrives—the hangover—we will see if they don’t need Venezuela’s gas.”said Rodríguez when supporting Nicolás Maduro’s decision to denounce the energy agreement between both countries: “It is a matter of honor, dignity and sovereignty, to declare persona non grata anyone who grovels before the enemies of Venezuela,” he added.

In addition, he described that administration as “a garbage government.”

Parliament also approved 15 articles of the bill on the commands for the comprehensive defense of the nation, which aims to establish the strategic lines of action for the operation of these bodies. They were approved unanimously in the second discussion.
