MIAMI, United States. – The National Action Party (PAN) of Mexico denounced this Tuesday that the hiring of Cuban doctors by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) is a way of financing the Cuban dictatorship.
In a virtual press conference, the national leader of the PAN, Marko Cortés Mendoza, affirmed that the hiring of Cuban doctors is “really insulting” for the entire medical community in Mexico when in the Aztec country there are medical personnel “who are ready, prepared and waiting for a job opportunity.
“First of all, we don’t know if they really are doctors, if they really have the capacity to treat the sick, but what we do know is that they are treated like slaves because the money is not for them but for the dictator Díaz-Canel of Cuba, and now In this it was very clear that López Obrador defends dictatorships, autocratic non-democratic countries,” said Cortés Mendoza.
The politician also blamed AMLO for “human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation” and warned that “it will be necessary to see if these supposed doctors are really doing health work or are doing politics.”
The PAN will investigate how much the island’s doctors are paid, how many hours they will work and how many people they will attend each day.
For his part, the coordinator of the PAN parliamentary group in the Senate, Julen Rementería del Puerto, denounced the amount paid by Mexico to the Havana regime for each doctor.
“We are talking about 437,000 pesos per doctor for three months, equivalent to 145,000 pesos for each Cuban doctor in our country (…). It is brazen, illegal, absurd financing to another country simply to try to help it. There is no way that it can be justified (…) but also, bringing them at that price is a real nerve, 145,796 pesos for each doctor per month, that cannot be, it cannot be allowed, ”he insisted.
The last Sunday The first 60 Cuban doctors hired by the AMLO government arrived in Mexico, according to the newspaper the day.
The island’s doctors, exported by the Havana regime, are the advance guard of a group of 500. In early May, during AMLO’s visit to the island, the Mexican government and Cuban authorities signed an agreement on health for hiring half a thousand doctors by the Aztec country.
AMLO, what has been criticized for hiring doctors from the island before nationals and for contributing to the exploitation scheme of the Cuban regime, he has defended that it is a decision based on human rights and not on ideology.
Last May, AMLO described criticism of his plans to hire 500 Cuban doctors as “vile”. “It is vile that for political, ideological reasons, for conservatism, for a retrograde way of thinking, the hiring of Cuban doctors is disqualified,” said during one of his daily press conferences known as “Las Mañaneras”.
Last February, Republican congressmen María Elvira Salazar, Mario Díaz-Balart, Carlos Giménez, and Senator Marco Rubio sent a letter to the Department of Labor’s Office of Commerce and Labor Affairs, requesting an investigation into possible violations of the United States Treaty. States-Mexico-Canada by Mexico.
“By forcibly exporting its doctors, the Cuban regime is sponsoring human trafficking. Our trading partner, Mexico, accepts exploited labor,” said the congressmen.
Also in February 2022, the portal Latinus denounced the link between the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (Conacyt) and the Cuban regime to the detriment of the development of knowledge and research in the Aztec country.
Latinus revealed that in 2021 the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador —through Conacyt— had paid 34 million pesos (1.66 million dollars in exchange) to the Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos Cubanos SA, an internationally accused corporation created in 2011 human trafficking and forced labor.
