This Saturday, the president of the Party for Democracy (PPD) and candidate for constitutional counselor for the Metropolitan Region, Natalia Piergentili, referred to the first regulations presented yesterday Friday by the Expert Commission of the constituent process. These are 14 chapters that make up the skeleton of the constitutional draft that will begin to be discussed starting next Monday, April 3 in the plenary session of the instance, where all its members will participate.
In this regard, the president of the PPD valued the work of the experts after a month carrying out their duties, and urged them to continue working with the same impetus and care. “It seems to me that they are on the right line. I think it is a good first constitutional framework, I think it expresses social rights, which, although it is a matter that must be reviewed, in areas such as the political system and others, it shows that there is a lot of dialogue and consensus, and I think it’s a reasonable proposal,” he said.
In addition, and regarding the aspects that he did not like about this first proposal of the Expert Commission, Piergentili explained that “he could do more things”, and that he would delve into some matters that for his sector, it is very necessary to delve into. “I think it is still very much in the skeleton, and that it is necessary to be more emphatic in how social rights and decentralization issues are raised, among other matters. But in general, I think it is a good architecture to start with,” added the PPD helmsman.
In this context, the also candidate for constitutional counselor referred to the possible lack of interest in this process on the part of the citizenry, which has also been reflected in recent surveys. In his opinion, and considering his experience in the campaign, Piergentili assured that “people are respectful, and in general, citizens are open to voting informed. We come from a failed process, and people want to be sure of what they vote for, of how this new process is proposed and the impact it has. For this reason, we are facing this remaining month of the campaign with a lot of street, a lot of energy and with a lot of determination, and fighting for our sector – the center-left – to have an important place within the new Constitutional Council.
In addition, and in relation to surveys and consultations that show a complex electoral panorama for her sector and her party, the pro-government leader assured “she had not seen surveys”, and that according to what she has observed on the street, “it has made a lot of sense to us regarding that this center-left option was missing, that Chile cannot continue to extremes, that Chile does not like polarization, that it likes to reach agreements and the ability to debate without losing its principles or convictions. sense, we have filled that space”, complemented Natalia Piergentili.
Finally, the president of the PPD affirmed that this is a short campaign, where it is necessary to try to empathize with the issues that are being important for citizens, such as the security issue and the economic issue, and sincerely see how that issue is linked with the Constitution. And it is that in Piergentili’s opinion, the Constitution is an opportunity to guarantee security and social rights that are very important. In this regard, and in terms of the Government’s reaction and response to the security crisis facing the country, she considers that the Executive has had a single line seeking to get in tune with the needs of the community regarding security issues. “In this the Government has been clear, it has not wavered, and it seems to me that we just have to continue supporting. Our votes (PPD) have been and will continue to be,” she concluded.
