The Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal, ‘king of Roland Garros’ with his 14 titles on the clay of Paris, congratulated Serbian Novak Djokovic on his “incredible achievement” this Sunday, by winning the tournament in the French capital and setting, with 23, a new record for Grand Slam titles.
“All my congratulations on this incredible achievement, Novak Djokovic”, Nadal wrote on Twitter, with whom the Serb was tied at 22 so far.
“23 is a number that seemed impossible to get a few years ago, and you’ve done it!” added the Spaniard, who this year was unable to defend his title at Roland Garros due to an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
— Other reactions after the 23rd Grand Slam:
Iga Swiatek (World No. 1 and winner of Roland Garros 2023, on Twitter): “Congratulations @DjokerNole.”
Nikola Jokic (Serbian Denver Nuggets star, NBA finalist, on Instagram): “Goat” (“Greatest of all time”“The best of all time”).
Billie Jean King (former world number 1, 12 Grand Slam titles, on Twitter): “Congratulations @DjokerNole for winning Roland Garros for the third time. You now hold the record of 23 Grand Slam titles.”
Carlos Alcaraz (winner of the US Open 2022, on Instagram): “All my congratulations for this title and this new record @DjokerNole”.
Andy Roddick (former world number 1 and winner of the US Open 2003): “Hard to argue with figures against the fact that @DjokerNole is the best! If they have an opposing argument it is because it is based on feelings and not on results. Congratulations on turning 23! It’s crazy to even think it’s possible!”
