The Campeonato Brasileiro is the Brazilian professional football league between clubs in Brazil, being the main football competition in the country. Through the dispute, Brazilian representatives for the Copa Libertadores da América are nominated (along with the champion of the Copa do Brasil).
Twenty clubs participate in the tournament. During the season, each team plays twice against the others (in a consecutive points system), once at their stadium and once at their opponent’s, for a total of 38 games.
Teams receive three points for a win and one for a draw. Clubs are ranked by total points, then goal difference, then goals scored. In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the tiebreaker criteria are: highest number of wins; higher goal difference; greater number of pro goals; direct confrontation; fewer red cards received; and fewer yellow cards received.
