The small labyrinths and cavities that surround it are witnesses to the tireless work of the wind on the rock.

The origin of its name is as fascinating as the place itself. According to a local legend, A tourist spontaneously named the formation, and after consulting the payeses (indigenous wise men) and a mamo from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, they all agreed that it was an appropriate name.

The reason behind this coincidence lies in a unique phenomenon: Every December at 9:00 PM, Orion’s Belt can be seen from one of the holes in the formation, a detail that the mamo predicted without having visited the place.

The journey to Orion’s Gate

Located just 9 kilometers from San José del Guaviare, Orion Gate becomes the perfect excuse for a day of hiking.

From this point, it is possible to continue exploring other nearby wonders, like the cave called ‘La Nevera’, famous for its mysterious drop in temperature inside.
