Mypes will lose close to S/ 2,000 million in sales during the Christmas campaign due to protests

Mypes will lose close to S/ 2,000 million in sales during the Christmas campaign due to protests

The current social and political crisis that the country is going through, which began with the coup d’état by Pedro Castillo and now with the multiple protests in different regions, would produce negative consequences in the business sector, made up of almost 1.8 million employees..

In that framework, Mypes Unidas del Perú (MUP) points out that all mypes in the sector, especially tourism and manufacturing, will present a decrease in their sales of almost S/ 2,000 million for this Christmas season.

According to MUP’s Arequipa regional director, Abel Dongo, “Not only the blockade of the roads and the marches harm us, it is the feeling of instability that is generated and that makes consumers refrain from buying products for this Christmas and give priority to food and savings in case of bigger problems ”.

In addition, the union considers that the political and social crisis produced today will cause the growth of the first quarter of employment to be zero. “The Mypes had faith in a Christmas campaign that would allow them to capitalize, pay debts and start 2023 with enthusiasm despite the recession in the offing, but today many will keep their stocks, remembering what happened in the pandemic”.

For this reason, the president of Mypes Unidas del Perú, Esperanza Tafur Huamán, has requested a working meeting with Mrs. Dina Boluarte through an official letter.

“We hope to be able to talk with the president and build some state policy in favor of Mypes, talking with the ministers is a waste of time because we don’t know how long they can last, we require a National Agreement for the Rescue of micro and small companies”, express.

Mypes require a contingency plan

Faced with the economic crisis that micro and small companies are experiencing and before the announcement of elections for 2024, the unions of the sector urgently request that, in agreement with the Presidency of the Republic and Congress, a Plan of Contingency and Emergency for Mypes to be able to face these problems.

“Our situation cannot wait any longer, so the mypes unions must be convened for a minimum agreement for 2024. This commission must have the necessary political support so that the Ministries execute it with the necessary speed due to such difficult times the country lives”indicate.

In addition to this, the grouped leaders of the different business unions express the following:

  1. That after 16 months of government and with more than 80 ministers, no comprehensive policy was designed to attack the problem of Mypes, nor were rescue measures implemented in favor of our sector.
  2. Unemployment, bankruptcy, the increase in informality and the loss of formal employment is not a narrative but a palpable reality and that is because the executive has not designed any countercyclical measure for this phenomenon produced by the economic crisis. , political and global that we are living.
  3. The Mypes will not give any truce to unemployment and bankruptcy that despite our efforts we cannot stop, feeling the indolence and indifference of the government.
  4. Likewise, we warn that chaos is being generated in society by closing roads, carrying out mobilizations that affect the normal development of economic activities, hitting the year-end campaign that thousands of micro-enterprises see as an important source to face 2023.
