‘My loves, there are good prices’: Haila Mompié promotes Mercedes-Benz for a people without food

The singer appears behind the wheel in a Commercial MCV spot SA, ensuring that in the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Havana the cars are cheaper than in the import.

Madrid, Spain.- The Cuban singer Haila María Mompié It has become the image of a commercial of the Commercial MCV Commercial SA company, Official Distributor in Cuba de Mercedes-Benz and other international brands. The campaign has generated strong criticism on social networks due to the gap between vehicle prices and population income.

In The spot, Mompié appears driving a car while ensuring that the prices offered by the company in Havana are competitive in front of those of private importation.

“My loves, we are really here in the Dealer de la Mercedes-Benz in Havana. Here there are many cars, you can truly choose because you have very good prices, I recommend them,” said the interpreter.

“Here you find your car with the tax and with everything at a price that guarantees you that sometimes you can be cheaper in the import that you are doing. In addition, you will avoid many procedures, many paperwork and especially the waiting for the car to arrive with the import,” he added.

The company that has promotes, MCV Comercial SA, was founded in 1995 and since then has served as a representative on the island of Mercedes-Benz and Mtu Friedrichshafen, in addition to maintaining agreements with Mitsubishi Fuso, Foton and the Brazilian Randon. According to its catalog of services, not only sells cars, but guarantees spare parts, training and technical assistance 24 hours.

The commercial was recorded at the brand dealership in Havana, although MCV claims to have a presence in several provinces of the country through concessionaires of MCV Servicios SA, located in Pinar del Río, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguín (including MOA) and Santiago de Cuba.

The announcement has caused a wave of negative reactions among Cubans, who question the relevance of promoting luxury cars in a country where the minimum wage is 2,100 Cuban pesos. For the majority, it is inconceivable that a common worker can access a German brand vehicle in the midst of the economic and social crisis that the island crosses.

In social networks, several users expressed their indignation by qualifying the “mockery for the people” and remembering that not even a doctor could acquire a car with their salary. Other comments pointed directly against the artist: “The impudence of this monkey with a wig is too much already, what Cuban on foot and worker can buy a car? And especially in the Mercedes,” one user wrote, while another questioned: “What a car, if people are dying of hunger and diseases?”

Haila Mompié has participated in official activities, has publicly expressed his admiration for the late dictator Fidel Castro and in 2019 he was declared a person not pleasant in Miami, which prevented him from presenting himself in that city.

Now, by becoming the face of a company that markets Mercedes-Benz and other foreign brands in Cuba, the figure of Haila is again in the center of the controversy, in a country where the vast majority of the population can hardly aspire to even buy a bicycle.
