"My goal is to be as great as Rossi and Marquez"

Fabio Quartararo.

This interview that fabio quartararo granted to ACE at paddock from Rio Hondo Hot Springs It’s made before the race. Said remains because his result, eighth, does not change or affect anything in the way of thinking of the French. At 22 years old (he turns 23 on April 20), the MotoGP champion has a strong personality and a maturity that makes him very aware of what is expected of him, and he aims high, very high.

—I wrote an article in AS for the preview of the Argentine GP with the title of ‘Sheriff wanted for MotoGP’, Because with the withdrawal of Rossi and the loss of Márquez, it was the first time in 26 years that at least one of the two was not in the paddock and some of us felt a bit like orphans without a defined leader. What do you think as current champion?

-I am prepared to assume that role, because my goal is to be this, the leader. My goal is not only to win a World Cup but to win as many as possible. It is a goal and it is up to me to take that role.

—Is that having weight on and off the track?

-Of course. Having the mentality of a Márquez or a Rossi is difficult, because if you finish fifth it’s a bad result. You have to know how to adapt to that pressure and my goal is to be as great as them. I am ready to shoulder the responsibility of the championship.

-He is already world champion. What is missing from them to be that grill boss?

—The experience of a Rossi and the ability to adapt to all conditions that Márquez has. This is what I lack, because we have speed. It’s the little things that make the difference in the MotoGP World Championship.

—Do you have to take care of your character because you are a pilot who gets very angry with himself?

—I have evolved a lot in character in the last two years and, above all, I am much calmer and more confident.

-The last one, while we were talking in the ‘paddock’ I saw him send a greeting with great complicity with the boss of Suzuki, Sahara…

-(Smile). It is respect. I’m a guy who greets everyone and this is a very small world where we all know each other.

—When are you going to decide where you will run next season and what does it depend on?

“It doesn’t depend on anything. It just takes time, a little time, and I don’t know yet.

—Are you happy at Yamaha?

—(Smiles and leaves without answering the question).
