Deputy Mariana Benítez Tiburcio, from the Oaxaca State Congress, requested a review of the resolution made by the judge.
“This fact represents a setback to justice in Oaxaca, because it is a blow to the face of all the women who fight every day to ensure that the aggressors and those responsible for the wave of femicide violence are punished.
“I demand that the Judiciary clarify this determination and the series of illegalities committed during the hearing,” he said in a statement.
The National Institute for Women (Inmujeres) also criticized the entity’s Judiciary.
On January 9, 2019, María Elena was attacked at her home in Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca, by two men identified as Ponciano H. and his son Rubicel H., two bricklayers who were allegedly hired by former PRI deputy Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal.
More than three years later, the young woman has had multiple surgeries for acid burns and has lobbied authorities to bring justice to her case.
