The Universal Medical Society decided to move the six workers denounced for sexual abuse of a colleague at a New Year’s Eve party and remove them from the care area, according to a February 8 statement from the mutualist to which he agreed. The Observer.
“Given the seriousness of the denounced facts and pending a judicial resolution, it is resolved to suggest to the workers involved that they take advantage of their statutory annual leave and reassign their work activity to non-assistance sectors,” they indicated. In statements released this Sunday in The Observer, the managers Alfredo Invernizzi and Gabriela Sequeira agreed that, as the climate inside the institution was “a bit tense” – in her words – they “suggested” to those indicated that they take the regulatory annual leave. One of them had already been reinstated and the rest are still on leave.
The situation arose as a result of the fact that a nurse from that institution had accused six co-workers –some of them colleagues and other orderlies– for having raped her at a New Year’s Eve dinner that took place on December 13. The woman filed a police report on the 18th of that same month.
The statement sought to reaffirm that the institution found out about the situation when she was absent from work without notice and as a result of the support provided to her, she made the complaint. They also recalled that the event did not occur within the Society or at an event convened by it.
In the fourth point, they indicated that they reject and regret “the form of disclosure adopted by some media outlets, as well as by people who have made publications on social networks, posters and escraches that identify the accused, but also the complainant or victim , revictimizing her and publicly condemning those accused without due process”.
“The institution has maintained, maintains and will maintain an alert and responsible attitude regarding the situation, awaiting the resolutions adopted by the Justice, from which the corresponding measures will be adopted by law,” they closed.
Since the day the police complaint was filed, the complainant is certified and has not yet returned to work. Beyond that, she asked that the section and schedule will be changed and from management it was granted.
tense atmosphere
Since the disclosure of the information, meetings and different conversations have been held within the Medical Society. A group of workers from the company have expressed their disagreement in different ways with the idea of continuing to live with those indicated in the rape complaint. They stated that they feel insecure about it and that they support their partner. On the other hand, others ask for caution while awaiting the judicial decision.
Despite the fact that what happened had been known to the Medical Society since December, the guild decided to issue for the first time this Thursday. In a statement to which he agreed The Observer, indicated that “prudence and respect for the situation of all those involved must prevail” and wait for a judicial resolution. As a result, they maintained that they understand it pertinent “not to make public statements until the Justice determines the responsibilities of the case.”
Beyond that, they stressed that they repudiate any form of abuse or violence, and that “any partner who has suffered or is suffering some form of violence has the support” of the union.
