Murillo proclaims restitution of women’s rights but imprisons, exiles and closes their organizations

Regime promotes patron saint festivities, but restricts processions in some municipalities

The spokesperson for the Nicaraguan regime, Rosario Murillo, in the framework of International Women’s Day, assured that her government has taken charge of restoring the rights of women in the country, but her regime has cut off all spaces for struggle, not only of the opposition, but of the organizations that defend women from sexist violence.

«Today we celebrate the life, hope, struggles and victories of Nicaraguan women at all stages, in all moments of our struggle. Heroic, who left us the example, the inspiration, the strength, how much they would not have wanted or how much they would have wanted to see these times where the rights of us women have asserted them, we have been supported and supported at all times, “said Murillo in his speech on March 8 in the dictatorship’s propaganda media.

Likewise, he proclaimed that “in the just demand and the need, the urgency of incorporating our rights; by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), by Comandante Daniel, our president, our general secretary, we have been backed, recognized and supported because we deserve to be backed, recognized and supported at all times, it is justice, it is not a gift, we are not They have given nothing away, it is justice,” said the same woman who supports her husband when he denounced the rape of his own daughter, Zoilamérica Ortega Murillo, exiled in Costa Rica.

“Commander Daniel has been able to recognize the right of each one of us and the duty of the Nicaraguan State and the FSLN to be fair and recognize our rights, and in this way we are being a force for struggle and victories,” stressed the deputy dictator, while her regime has in charge of curtailing freedom of expression and civic spaces in Nicaragua, the rights and freedoms of women and the feminist movements that defend them.

Rosario Murillo insisted that “we women have asserted all our rights as the essence and great spirit of our Nicaraguan identity. Inescapable, essential women visible more and more for our own merit.

«We celebrate life, the blessing of these new times, convinced that we have reached today courageous, valuable, courageous, assuming all the challenges with the spiritual strength of life and hope. We are made of peace and values, peace and principles, peace and strength, peace and hard work, peace and respect, peace and the certainty of the future,” he added.

The Ortega administration continues to prohibit any type of demonstration or protest, which has forced women not to take to the streets to claim their rights for fear of reprisals or being persecuted by the regime.

In addition, Rosario Murillo assured that women in the country have rights, but left more than a dozen journalists, activists, human rights defenders, students and opponents without nationality.

The exile of the opposition women was Murillo’s idea, as revealed by her own husband Daniel Ortega on February 9, when he expelled from the country the ex-guerrilla Dora María Téllez, Ana Margarita Vijil, Tamara Dávila, Suyen Barahona, Violeta Granera and Esperanza Sánchez, among other.

All these political prisoners were subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment in the different prisons of the country, according to complaints from local and international human rights organizations, complaints that were corroborated by the same women released from exile in the United States.

On February 15, Murillo ordered the declaration of another group of women “traitors of the homeland,” the seizure of Nicaraguan nationality, and the confiscation of their property. All this under the protection of a series of laws described as repressive by the opposition and international human rights organizations. In this group are the journalists Jennifer Ortiz and the political prisoner Lucía Pineda Ubau; the activist Zayda Hernández; human rights defenders Vilma Núñez and Haydée Castillo.
