Nicaragua’s deputy president, Rosario Murillo, celebrated the approach of the municipal elections, called a farce by the opposition; to be held on November 6. “We feel happy and proud to be advancing in this period of well-ordered, happy, colorful municipal elections, all of us happy trying to achieve the goals we seek in consolidating the strengthening of peace, the joy of living in peace and working to prosper. », said the government spokeswoman through her usual communication with official media.

Murillo added that they are preparing “once again to ratify our national sovereignty policy that leads us forward in work, peace, but above all, that peace, without which it is impossible to build, that peace that belongs to everyone, that belongs to us.” , that peace with which we are moving forward and moving our country forward ».
The Urnas Abiertas observatory has denounced that in Nicaragua fundamental freedoms and the right to political participation “have been systematically violated in electoral processes through the exclusive manipulation of the electoral roll, the judicial persecution of opponents, the exclusion of candidacies and the illegal use of state resources for proselytizing purposes”.
In addition, it warns that the political violence will be of the same or worse magnitude than in the elections of the past 2021, “which makes us fear that we will see a new escalation of state violence in the municipal elections this year,” reiterates a document presented to the Commission of the United Nations (UN).

The organization has asked the international community to “urge the State of Nicaragua to guarantee the development of free and transparent elections in accordance with article 25 of the Pact, for this the immediate cessation of repression is necessary, the full freedom of prisoners policies, the appointment of new electoral authorities, the return of the legal personality of the arbitrarily canceled parties, the repeal of the electoral reforms approved in 2021 and 2022, mainly the legislation to inhibit and restrict electoral competition.
Murillo avoids referring to sanctions
In her monologue, the deputy president avoided referring to the sanctions applied this Monday, October 24, by the United States government to the gold business in Nicaragua. An amendment to Executive Order 13851 to “hold responsibility” for the dictatorship for its “attacks on freedom of expression and assembly.”
The United States has established itself over the years as Nicaragua’s main trading partner, all this despite the policy of verbal attacks and diplomatic outbursts that the Ortega-Murillo regime has maintained since coming to power in 2007.
Between January and July 2022, Nicaragua registered exports of around 3.2 billion dollars, while imports stood at 1.5 billion dollars. These figures reflect a surplus of 1.7 billion dollars favorable to Managua.
Ignoring this situation, Murillo said that “Nicaragua has been healing on the wings of angels, on the wings of archangels, healing from so much sadness that was imposed on us a few years ago, a short time ago, from so much pain, from so much suffering, and above all from so much treachery.”
