Municipality of Trujillo only has 19 video cameras

It is considered one of the most violent cities in the country, where murders, kidnappings, assaults and extortions are gaining ground and keeping its citizens in anxiety. However, in this district the crimes cannot be captured by the video surveillance cameras installed by the provincial municipality because only 29.23% of these equipment are operational, which means a serious blow to the fight against insecurity.

This is how we are

A report from the Citizen Security Management of the municipality of Trujillo revealed that only 19 of the 65 video surveillance cameras in the commune are useful. Of the 46 that do not work, 28 are inoperative “due to fiber optic cuts” and 18 “due to electrical problems that have to do with failures in the electrical system of the cabinet, the switch, the UPS, the camera’s power, or due to a power cut. electrical energy”.

The manager of Citizen Security, Caesar Campañaindicated that one of the problems with this equipment is the fiber optics, because the majority was acquired in 2017, during the administration of the late mayor Elidio Espinoza.

“It happens that in the year they were acquired, the optical fiber they had was of lower quality,” Indian.

He added that Mayor Mario Reyna’s management called for bidding to put these devices into operation; but the company that won did not carry out the work, so the commune requested that the penalties be activated.

Now, they have asked that a firm be hired again to carry out these tasks. In addition to this, a project was approved to implement 20 decentralized video surveillance stations and a request was made to prepare a technical file to acquire cameras. At the time, Mayor Mario Reyna announced that there would be 300 devices that would be purchased.

Urgent investment

The inoperability of these equipment was questioned by councilor Andrés Sánchez, who considered that “the district of Trujillo cannot afford the luxury of having 19 cameras, because that is tickling crime.”

“I think we have to put emphasis on attacking there, so that through technology we can visualize the critical sites that Trujillo has. There is money from the Municipal Fund, from the 2022 profits, which is close to S/ 10 million. I would ask you, Mr. Mayor (Mario Reyna), to make an investment in the face of citizen insecurity that hits us every day.”he indicated.

The councilor Luis Gonzales RosellMeanwhile, he questioned the work of manager César Campaña. For him, it is “disappointing” that the number of cameras in Trujillo has decreased compared to previous years. “The worst thing is that it does not give satisfactory answers on this topic”he added.

Added to this are the criticisms of councilors Jorge Vásquez and Giancarlo Toribio, who publicly asked that Mario Reyna evaluate the possibility of removing the manager of Citizen Security from office.
