The Municipal Health Department (SMS) of Rio de Janeiro will intensify from tomorrow (17) the active search for children who have not been vaccinated against polio in the capital.
Data from the secretariat indicate that with vaccination coverage of only 51%, about 160,000 children from 1 to 4 years old have not yet attended the posts to receive the extra dose of the vaccine against infantile paralysis in the municipality. “The polio vaccination schedule consists of doses at two, four and six months of age, plus a drop at 15 months and 4 years. In addition, another booster dose is being applied to children between one and four years old.
The intention of the secretary with the intensification of the active search, in addition to the application of all doses of the vaccine, is to update the vaccination booklet of children between 2 months and 14 years. “To ensure that they are up to date with all vaccines recommended for each age group,” he added.
Secretary Daniel Soranz will give more information about the actions that will be carried out, during a press conference, this Monday, at the Píndaro de Carvalho Rodrigues Municipal Health Center, in Gávea, south of the city.
