After two years, due to health restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the municipal nurseries resume their functions in May to house more than 1,600 children in the 40 nurseries of the different districts. Mayor Jhonny Fernández visited two nurseries in the southern zone to inspect their renovation and maintenance work.
Fernández pointed out that the educators, called ‘tías’, are being trained so that the children are cared for with quality and warmth. “More than 200 educators are being trained to carry out this work and it is important to tell the parents that there is a regulation that they must follow. There are many mothers who do not know where to leave their children to be able to work, we are going to prioritize those people who really need it,” said Mayor Jhonny Fernández.
He underscored the need to reopen daycare centers, as many parents leave their children alone at home, with their siblings or with neighbors, posing a safety risk to children. “Parents who really need a shelter to leave their children will be selected. so that they can work,” said the mayor.
The mayor added that the demand for nurseries is high, so next year, if there is a budget, he plans to build more nurseries until he reaches 100. Currently the municipality has 40 nurseries.
