The use of speakers on the beaches is not allowed in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. A decree by Mayor Eduardo Paes, published in today’s edition (26) of the Official Gazette of the Municipality, gives “effectiveness to the legal ban on the use of speakers or any means of sound amplification on the beaches of the City of Rio de Janeiro”.
The decree also determines the seizure of equipment by the Municipal Guard of Rio in case of non-compliance. The collection will be formalized with the issuance of the Sound Equipment Retention Term (TRES) and must be resolved.
The exception is for the use of sound amplification equipment exclusively for the promotion of sports or leisure activities duly authorized by the City Hall of Rio. Speakers are also allowed at events authorized by the municipality in public and private areas in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
The purpose of the decree is to make effective the control and inspection measures of sources of noise pollution on the beaches and parks of the city.
