This Tuesday, the Municipal Council of Caracas held in the Santa Rosa Chapel, the Solemn Session in commemoration of the 212 years of the Cry of Independence.
The event was presided over by the mayor of Caracas, A/J Carmen Meléndez, who highlighted the example of resistance of the capital city in Latin America, “a historic date, 212 years since that flame that was lit, an example for all of America”
Regarding the new symbols of Caracas, the mayor expressed “yesterday we were together with the people of Caracas presenting the new symbols of the city, and with an indescribable joy, the absence of symbols, we have filled it with love, history, identity and the historical strength of the People of Caracas”.
Meléndez stressed that history must be studied “Bring history, resistance to schools, high schools. We decided to be free, it is the same People without bowing down to any empire. We have to remember history and keep it in mind”.
He stressed that the People “will continue to win in every fight, in every battle.”

The order speaker was given by the historian, Dr. Omar Hurtado, who highlighted the significance of the date “this was the day that Venezuela decided to break the chains of oppression.”
He recalled that in the year 1810, there was an adverse reaction in the Mantuan class before the domination of France, but that day, the then Captain General Vicente Emparan was called to the Cabildo, in the place, browns and mestizos arrived for the first time “it is in Caracas where the first firm act of independence takes place”, affirmed the historian.
The Solemn act was attended by representatives of the National Executive Power, the National Assembly, the Diplomatic Corps, the head of Government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández, as well as the councilors of the Municipal Chamber.
