Multiple collision with 16 vehicles leaves 7 injured in Yaracuy

This Thursday, around 11 am, there was a multiple accident on the Cimarrón Andresote central-western highway, near the town of Guama, Sucre municipality, Yaracuy state, in which 16 vehicles were involved and 7 people were injured.

The incident occurred when a truck loaded with beer found itself in a traffic jam caused by work being carried out on the road, hitting the stopped vehicles from behind and knocking several of them down.

The truck driver, named José Túa, said he was driving his vehicle at a safe speed, around 80 km/h, when he suddenly came across a lot of cars stopped in the middle of the road, without giving him a chance to brake in time.

Túa said he came from San Joaquín, Carabobo state, with a shipment of beer that he had to deliver in Lara.

Meanwhile, Maria Crose, one of those affected by the incident, was traveling with her 10-year-old son in her Toyota 4Runner when she encountered the police commission that was stopping traffic and stopped immediately.

She said she was unable to move for approximately 20 minutes until she heard the noises produced by the impacts behind her, when she felt the impact on the rear bumper of her vehicle.

Apparent speeding

For his part, First Inspector Pedro Álvarez, head of the Traffic Accident Investigation Division (DIAT) in Yaracuy, reported that among the first actions taken at the site of the accident were the immediate transfer of the injured and the protection of the vehicles involved to prevent disastrous theft.

Planimetric measurements were also made on the road to record the cars involved and then determine the responsibilities of the case.

He said that although the accident is still under investigation, it can be presumed, according to the first expert reports carried out at the scene, that the cause of the accident could be excessive speed, in addition to the short distance between the vehicles.

Álvarez clarified that before the accident, a police commission was at the scene stopping traffic while fiber optic installation work was carried out, with all the necessary precautions and signage.
