MUD, UNT and MVP demand the publication of the complete minutes of #28Jul: We have the right to doubt

Governor Manuel Rosales stated that Edmundo González used «the letter route» to respond to the summons of the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ. Leader José Simón Calzadilla questioned the Judiciary about its actions. «The only institution authorized to totalize, adjudicate and proclaim is the National Electoral Council»

Upon leaving the Supreme Court of Justice, representatives of the parties Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT), Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD) and Movimiento Por Venezuela (MPV) once again demanded that the National Electoral Council publish all the minutes of the presidential elections of July 28, following the results that favored the ruler Nicolás Maduro and that the opposition group claims as “fraud.”

Governor and President of UNT, Manuel Rosales, explained that it was a hearing/summons before the Electoral Chamber, in which he responded to an “exhaustive interrogation regarding the electoral process of July 28. We are present here, and it is good to reiterate it, on behalf of the people of Venezuela because we are demanding respect for the vote.”

He pointed out that they have the right to “reasonable doubt” about the results reported by the CNE, which declared Nicolás Maduro the winner without having published the minutes of the vote count. He stressed that both the Unitary Platform and the Command with Venezuela, “of which we are members,” published the minutes in their possession on a website. He avoided clarifying whether the TSJ asked him to submit the physical material.

Rosales also said that these minutes should reflect “what the massive participation of the people of Venezuela meant, that has been the presence of those of us who nominated Edmundo Gonzalez. We hope that from this publication, following the mandate of the Constitution and the laws, the definitive results of the process of July 28 will be declared and established.”

On the other hand, regarding the absence of Ambassador Edmundo González at the summons made by the Electoral Chamber, he said that the diplomat “used the letter route” to respond to that call. “There are two ways of being present,” he insisted.

While José Simón Calzadilla, representative of MPV, recalled that the Organic Law of Electoral Processes (Lopre) states that the totalization and tabulation table by table must be delivered within 48 hours to the participants of each election.

“This has not happened and we said so in the TSJ (…) We did not understand what we were doing here, what controversy was being resolved because the only institution authorized to carry out electoral processes, total, adjudicate and proclaim is the National Electoral Council,” he said.

Calzadilla said that the summons did not make clear the reason for it or whether they were required to hand over any electoral instrument. “The fact is that the Lopre clearly establishes that they must be in custody of the Plan República at the disposal of the CNE. Today we left this court with more doubts than when we arrived and it was not made clear to us what this interpellation of the magistrates consisted of.”

He reiterated the request of the parties that support González to hand over all the minutes. “What evidence are we going to submit if the National Electoral Council has not given us the minutes duly tabulated? (…) The copies of the minutes that are in the possession of the parties and can be accredited by the candidates are so that each party can exercise the right to compare the results of each one with the results of the totalization of the minutes table by table.”
