Many people are interested in applying for an electronic driver’s license, in order to avoid long queues at the issuing offices and to have a more practical way of carrying this document.

What requirements do you need to obtain an electronic driver’s license?

The MTC has set certain conditions for citizens interested in applying for their electronic driver’s license. You must comply with them to avoid any problems when completing the procedure.

  • You must not have any kind of outstanding fine – whether it be an electoral fine or unpaid ballots – or a sanction that has not been complied with.
  • Pass the required medical exam, the knowledge exam and also the driving test, depending on the procedure you need to complete.
  • Having created your MTC electronic mailbox, where the electronic license will arrive once it is processed.

What should you do to apply for an electronic driver’s license?

If you want to get an electronic driving license, you can do so online on the Ministry of Transport and Communications website. These are the steps:

  • Access the .
  • Choose the procedure you will carry out – in this case the issuance of a driver’s license – and register your ID number.
  • You must create an MTC email address so that you can receive notifications from the entity.
  • Please have a photo of your ID on both sides, an affidavit in PDF format and a self-portrait showing the signed affidavit.
  • Make the payment of S/6.70 (using code 1601) at Pagalo.pe or BN Payment Gateway in the system.
  • Check your electronic mailbox to verify receipt of your electronic driver’s license.

On the other hand, those who wish to make the payment in person will have to follow these steps after completing the requirements.

  • Pay the S/6.70 fee at any Banco de la Nación branch for the right to issue a driver’s license.
  • Create your email address.
  • Go to the MTC Driver’s License Issuance Center.
  • Choose the procedure you will carry out – in this case the issuance of the electronic driver’s license – and register your DNI number.
  • After validating the data, you will be able to receive your electronic driver’s license, which can be downloaded.

It should be noted that apart from Lima, you can issue the electronic license in Cajamarca and La Libertad.

What advantages will you get from having an electronic driver’s license?

This process is much faster than a physical driver’s license. These are some of the benefits.

  • It has a more affordable price compared to the physical license.
  • You will not have to process a copy if you lose it, since it can be downloaded on different occasions and free of charge.
  • You will avoid fines, since you will not have to worry about being fined with the G58 violation, which is imposed on drivers who do not have a physical license during inspections.
