An agreement between the Cuban Mipyme Sé SRL and the French brand Oka Beer will allow the production and distribution of this beer throughout the island.
According to CubasíOka beer, with 5 % alcohol and a non -malted taste, was praised by Yoandro Roberto Matos Parra, president of the ACC in Santiago de Cuba, for being “exquisite to the palate.”
The company, based in the FOCSA building and a mini-industry in Güira de Mamena, Artemisa, seeks to diversify the supply of food and drinks in Cuba. It has operated for two years.
There were also four Italian gin (upper celestial, rare, rosé and upper 0.0), highlighted by using purified water from the Mediterranean, under the slogan “The sea in a bottle.” They will also be marketed soon in Cuba.
As detailed on its official website, Oka beer is prepared in Champigneulles, one of the European beer regions with greater tradition, in northern France. Oka is described as “a darker and more deep beer”, with a “slightly sweet” aftertaste.
This collaboration reinforces the presence of imported products in the Cuban market, although production volumes or specific distribution dates were not detailed.
The Cuban government has applied an increase in duty to the importation of beer from Malta, a measure that does not consider “isolated”, but part of the “projections to correct distortions.”
According to joint resolution 2, published in the Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 25of April 24, 2024, the portfolios of finance and prices and foreign trade and foreign investment approved a 20 % increase in tariff rates for those who import this drink to the island.
On the other hand, it will be 10 % for those who do it from a Most favored nation (NMF)a category that encompasses commercial partners benefiting in particular by the Cuban authorities.
On its official website, the Ministry of Finance and Prices argues that this “projection must be taxed to stimulate and protect national production”, as well as “the increase in productive capacity installed in the country, according to international practice.”
