A hot press conference was given this Monday by the Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, where he provided details about the events that occurred on Sunday in Chapare, in which former President Evo Morales reported having been the victim of an alleged attack by people who responds to the Government.

At the press conference, the minister accused former President Morales and his armed team of firing shots at members of the National Police, when he was intercepted in a routine operation. Below are the most striking phrases from Minister Del Castillo’s statements:

About the video broadcast by Morales

1. “Mr. Morales, why do you edit your videos and not show how they shot the Bolivian Police? Instead of editing videos with special effects that no one believes, showing that a person can drive 170 kilometers per hour without tires —supposedly because they had been shot at—I would like to know if there is anyone in the world capable of driving at that speed with two tires destroyed by bullet impacts.

2. “I would like to know who, in the universe, can drive after being shot in the back of the head and then move to another vehicle. Mr. Morales, no one believes in the theater you have put on, but you will have to answer before the Bolivian Justice for the crime of attempted murder.”

3. Why didn’t they film from the moment they were intervened by the Bolivian Police when they asked them to stop the vehicle to check what they had inside the vehicle and what happened in the 30 minutes? We see that this video is completely manipulated.

About the shootings against the police

4. “Where does a former president have a firearm? I would like to know if Mr. Carlos Mesa, Tuto Quiroga or another former president of our country or any other country has firearms to shoot, like Juan in his house, against the life and integrity of the Bolivian Police. And he not only manifests it once, but he manifests it twice. That he has shot at the Bolivian Police… No one can dare to shoot at the Police without having the necessary consequences.

5. “I shot the tire,” says Mr. Morales. When have you received training to shoot precisely at the tire? What kind of specialization do Mr. Morales, the people around him and these supposed actors have?

6. He wants to hide the truth, not only does he not want it to be known what existed inside the vehicle, but he is seeking to victimize himself with a terrible performance. Mr. Morales, nothing and no one is going to save you from this criminal process. The Ministry of Government is going to be part (of the process) because no one who dares to touch or shoot a police officer can continue to remain unpunished in our country.

7. You (by Evo Morales) are a 65-year-old man and you cannot continue lying to the Bolivian people all your life. The only thing they are looking for is blood on the roads, as Mr. Juan Ramón Quintana said, that the only way to make their conflict grow is blood…. but indigenous.

8. That is what Mr. Morales is looking for and that is why yesterday he sought to victimize himself by not having obtained casualties from the Bolivian Police or casualties from the Armed Forces

9. We will continue to carry out the unblocking in our country, learning about people who are committing crimes in flagrante delicto, bringing them before the prosecutors so that they can imitate the corresponding accusations and, subsequently, bringing these criminals before the administrators of justice.
