The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in Amazonas reported today (26) that it denounced the president of the National Indian Foundation (Funai), Marcelo Augusto Xavier da Silva, to the Federal Court for the crime of slanderous denunciation.
According to the MPF, the president blamed the crimes of influence peddling and malfeasance on Funai employees, members of the Waimiri Atroari Association and legal entities, knowing that they were innocent.
According to the agency, the “political pressure” against the civil servants took place during the indigenous assessment part of the environmental licensing process for the Linhão do Tucuruí, an energy transmission line between Manaus and Boa Vista.
The complaint also states that, after the shelving of the police investigation opened on the basis of the accusations, “in revenge”, the president filed a representation against the prosecutor of the Republic Igor Spíndola, responsible for the final opinion of the case.
