The Federal Public Prosecution Service (MPF) sent on Monday (17) a recommendation to the City of Rio de Janeiro and the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (SEOP) to change rules related to the work of street vendors in this year’s carnival. Among the requests is to authorize that street vendors who are already licensed to work in the rest of the year can also work during the revelry. 
At a public hearing held ten days ago, representatives of the United Movement of Camelôs (Muca) and the Sindinformal criticized the fact that City Hall Having chosen the workers for Carnival exclusively by lot. Many who work regularly during the year were excluded from the 15,000 contemplated.
The MPF gave a five -day deadline for the response of the City Hall, the Seop and the Municipal Guard. Prosecutor Julio José Araujo Junior and Public Defender Fernanda de Souza Lima gave other recommendations, such as allowing street vendors to use their own work materials (isoopores, carts, collapses, etc.) and establish that work permit at Carnival can extend beyond the administrative region registered in the license of each street vendor.
It was also recommended that the SEOP refrained from practicing illegal and disproportionate seizures of goods during Carnival and adopt transparency measures to inform the population about the allocation of the goods seized during the event
The Corregedoria of the Municipal Guard and the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order must have a duty scheme during the carnival to meet the cases of illegal seizures and violence committed by public agents against the street vendors.
