The Public Ministry (MP) is investigating the construction of paddle tennis courts in Caracas for causing “serious environmental damage”, including the death of several birds, especially macaws, after colliding with the glass of the facilities.
Through an Instagram publication, Attorney General Tarek William Saab indicated that in addition to birds, other species have been affected and said that the 87th prosecutor’s office was appointed to investigate and punish these damages.
However, the MP did not specify how many birds have died or give details of what other species have been affected or how.
This week, the veterinarian Greece Marquis reported that a macaw died after colliding with the glass of a paddle tennis court in the Baruta municipality. He explained that the bird had a “fracture of the cervical vertebrae and skull.”
Veterinarian Marquís recommends that the owners of paddle tennis courts, to reduce damage to the biodiversity of each outdoor area, take actions such as putting stickers on all the windows, installing warm lights instead of LEDs and turning them off at the stipulated time and not leave them on all night; as well as regulating the volume of music played in the facilities.
