MP accused a priest in Táchira of sexual abuse against a 13-year-old minor

The 16th Prosecutor’s Office of Táchira accused Nepomuceno Hernández Blanco, a priest of the San Juan Bautista de la Concordia parish, in San Cristóbal, Táchira, with charges of sexual abuse for allegedly attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl.

In the brief filed before the 2nd Court with jurisdiction in Violence Against Women in the entity, the fiscal representation requested the admission of the accusation, the trial of the priest and that the deprivation of liberty be maintained at the PNB headquarters in San Cristóbal.

The formal accusation comes 45 days after the indictment of the suspect, arrested on August 13 by officials attached to the Strategic Investigations Directorate of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB).

After the arrest, the Diocese of San Cristóbal suspended Hernández Blanco. Through a statement released by the organization and signed by the Bishop of San Cristóbal, Mario Moronta, they expressed feeling “ashamed” of the crime.

“The priest is responsible for his actions and must answer for them before civil and ecclesiastical law. He has the right to defend himself, for which he will have the assistance of a lawyer that he himself appoints. The Diocese shows his concern and offers its accompaniment to the victim of this embarrassing act », the publication stressed.
