He Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the best-known works of the famous Austrian composer, will have a special presentation at the Cathedral of Havana.
The work, the last mass written by Mozart, will be presented on April 15 at 8:00 pm, as part of the actions for the Month of European culture in Cuba and the Conference on Sacred Music organized by the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, refers the ACuban News Agency (ACN).
The event will have free admission and will bring together around a hundred musicians on stage as part of an artistic and academic exchange project between the Lyceum Mozartiano of Havana and the Balthasar Neumann Chor & Ensemble of Germany, adds the publication.
The Havana Lyceum Orchestra will act as the host group and together with it will perform the choirs of the University of the Arts, the National Lyric Theater and the Schola Cantorum Coralina.
In addition, four soloists from the Balthasar Neumann Chor will have a special participation in the presentation: the soprano Katja Stuber, the alto Anne Bierwirth, the tenor Jakob Pilgram and the baritone Lisandro Abadie, notes the news office.
The evening’s program also includes the Sinfony for strings no.13 Sinfoniesatz and the psalm no. 43 Richte mich, Gottby Felix Mendelssohn, under the direction of the German Thomas Hengelbrock.
Hengelbrock, who founded the Balthasar Neumann Chor & Ensemble 25 years ago, is considered one of the most versatile conductors of his generation. The renowned musician has previously performed in Cuba.
His last concert on the island was at the Closing of the Mozart Habana Festival in 2019, also at the Havana Cathedral. He then presented a symphonic-choral program that combined pieces by Mozart, Schumann and the Cuban composer Carlos Fariñas, according to aim Havana Tribune.
On this occasion, as part of the musical assembly process, 11 teachers from the Balathasar Neumann Academy will also give workshops and classes to musicians from the Lyceum and students from the University of the Arts. The teaching activities will focus on the specialties of violin, viola, cello, double bass, woodwind, metal wind and singing, concludes the ACN.
