In the midst of the armed conflict that affects Catatumbo, an image has moved everyone: a woman hugging her dog while being evacuated in a National Army helicopter. This act of love and loyalty shows how families, in the midst of adversity, do not leave their faithful companions behind.
The violence has impacted both people and pets, leaving many in a state of abandonment. However, thanks to rescue efforts, some have managed to be moved to safe places, as seen in the emotional video that has widely circulated on social networks.
The Humanitarian Crisis in Catatumbo
The Catatumbo region, located in the department of Norte de Santander, faces a serious humanitarian crisis due to the escalation of clashes between the National Liberation Army (ELN) and FARC dissidents.
These clashes have left at least 80 dead and caused the displacement of approximately 20,000 people to cities such as Cúcuta, Ocaña and Tibú.
In response to the growing violence, President Gustavo Petro has declared a state of internal commotion and economic emergency, allowing the government to take exceptional measures to restore public order and address the humanitarian crisis. This decision seeks to mitigate the impact of the conflict and provide assistance to the thousands of people who have been displaced.
The international community has expressed its concern about the situation in Catatumbo, while authorities and humanitarian organizations continue to work to guarantee the safety and well-being of those affected. In the midst of this difficult situation, the moving images of the woman and her dog symbolize the hope and love that persist even in the darkest moments.
