The APP developed by UTEC students is operational
In an event that was attended by the Mayor of Cerro Largo and the Director of the Northern Regional Technological Institute, the presentation of the Movi-Melo Application was made.
It is the result of many months of work by both students and teachers at UTEC with important contributions made by the community of the departmental capital itself.
“We started from a project called People-Centered Urbanism. In the first stage, which were the first steps, UTEC was in charge of that with the Team led by Noelia Botana and the Digital Transformation Center” counted Franco Duarte.
“Noelia Botana was in charge, together with the community, of developing the aspects in which Melo had conflicts and that we could help him with technology. From this entire first stage, what is sustainable mobility arises. From there begins the co-design stage, part in which the teams, of which there were two, began to provide our solutions. This is what Movi-Melo comes out with.” broad.
From that moment on, the project began to be financed by the Technological University.
LOTS OF COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
“It was a participatory process with the community, in all instances people were contributing. In the last stages, when we were already developing Movi-Melo, what we did were workshops where we tested the Application, they were usability tests where all those actors who helped develop this Application, telling us what were the problems that we were going to solve, they actually tested it from their cell phones and gave us feedback so that from there continue improving what we did” explained Florence Da Rosa.
He added that the Application is the result of all the collaborative work of the community as a whole with the contributions it made, added to the work of the UTEC, the Municipality of Cerro Largo and the Development Team of the idea.
“This project helped us a lot to apply all the knowledge acquired. We are students of the 1st Generation of UTEC, so everything we have learned in this process and that we continue studying was transferred to this new Application” he stated.
BUS FREQUENCIES, PUBLIC SPACES AND EVENTS
Da Rosa commented that the APP focuses on the route of urban passenger transport units. “It has information about frequencies, stops and the unit in real time. At the same time we add data about squares, parks, cultural centers, museums and fairs, everything that is relevant information and points of interest in the city of Melo with the aim of also disseminating them and that people can access to reach those points” he pointed out.
“It also has a calendar functionality where there are different events that take place in Melo. The people there will have all the information regarding that” assured Florencia Da Rosa.
“We not only aim at the Melense community so that they can use this as a tool, but we also see it as a possibility for people who visit our department, especially the capital, so that they can access all the points of interest within Melo. At the same time we aim for them to be able to use urban transport, which is a bit complicated, tedious, if they do not have the information.” Franco Duarte pointed out.
“Personally, I study here in Melo but I am originally from Fraile Muerto, it happened to me that I didn’t know much about buses. Now I started to understand that because we are under the project. The idea is that all people have, in an equitable way, the information centralized in a single place, which is Movi-Melo” remarked the UTEC student.
