Ricardo Lombana, former presidential candidate in 2019 and president of the Movement Another Path Panama (MOCA), received from the Electoral Court the official resolution that recognizes the group as a political party.
Lombana expressed that this “the last step of our journey.” He recalled that five years ago he collected the first support signature for his independent presidential candidacy. He managed to collect 108,492 signatures, which led him to appear on the ballot in the May 2019 elections, a tournament in which he obtained 18.9% of the votes for the position of president.
MOCA is a tool to compete on equal terms with traditional parties. Now that it is legally constituted, Lombana invited more citizens to join his movement once the registration books reopen. He added that citizens now “have a political party that represents them.”
