MADRID, Spain.- The fire of a motorcycle on Bella Vista street in the El Canal neighborhood, in the Cerro municipality, caused serious injuries to a woman, who is hospitalized at the Calixto García University Hospital; and another suffered minor injuries. In addition, eight houses, adjoining one another by walls, were affected by the fire.
“In the early hours of the morning (Saturday), when the unfortunate event occurred, the firefighters and the municipal authorities immediately appeared. We can ensure that none of the minors residing in the family nuclei that suffered this accident received bodily harm,” announced Nelson Santana Jiménez, mayor of the municipality.
According to Santana Jiménez, quoted by the official media Havana Tribunethe Basic Electric Organization of the municipality, CUPET, the representatives of the municipal directorates of Housing, Labor and Commerce appeared in the place to carry out a survey and quantify the damages, as a previous step to take the necessary measures to give him the solution as quickly as possible to the needs of these affected families.”
While Mercedes Alba Cuní, president of the El Canal Popular Council, said that the affected families are being cared for in a local school.
“We know that some are going to self-evacuate, until the authorities provide the required solution,” he added.
In June of this year, the explosion of a motorcycle in a state parking lot near Calzada de Diez de Octubre caused the total destruction of 12 motorcycles and caused damage to two light cars.

Recommendations from specialists to prevent engine fires
The motorinas have become one of the most used means of transport in recent years in Cuba. The shortage of fuel and the deterioration of public transport services have forced many Cubans to resort to this type of vehicle.
To prevent fires, specialists in these vehicles consulted by CubaNet They have recommended doing a complete charge and discharge cycle every one or two months; avoid removing the Battery Management System (BMS); use only chargers specified by manufacturers; as well as not leaving the motorcycle connected for long periods once it has reached 100% of the charge.

Another precaution is to leave the battery between 50% and 70% if you have to leave the motorcycle inactive for a long time, always placing it in a cool place with little humidity.
Experts in this type of motorcycle emphasize that lithium batteries do not have a memory effect and do not always need full charges or discharges.
