Motor skills classrooms: They promote initial education

With the aim of strengthening initial education in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Gladys Béquer Díaza specialist in children’s motor skills, will lead a diploma aimed at more than 2,000 teachers in the country.

The training will allow teachers to adequately implement the motor skills classrooms in public schoolsa pioneering project that seeks to comprehensively develop the motor and cognitive skills of children from 0 to 6 years old.

Currently there are 7 psychomotor classrooms.

The classrooms are designed so that children can move freely, play and learn under the supervision of trained teachers in psychomotora discipline that goes beyond traditional physical education.

He diploma is designed to provide teachers with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to work with children in these classrooms, where play, movement and physical stimulation are combined with pedagogical strategies specialized.

“The most important thing is not only to have the physical room, but to guarantee that teachers are trained to apply appropriate methodologies to early childhood,” explained the master ideologist of the project and advisor to the Inefi, Jacobo Moquete.

  • According to specialists, the psychomotor not only seeks muscle development, but also stimulates physical literacy and cognitive growth of children, laying the foundations for their comprehensive development.

Classroom contributions

The Dr. Diaz highlighted that physical education in the first years of life should focus on the stimulation of motor and cognitive skills, and not be limited to physical exercises or recreational activities. “These classrooms allow children to develop comprehensively, stimulating their abilities from a pedagogical approach specialized,” he said.

It is estimated that, as teachers are formally trained, the results in motor development and students’ cognitiveconsolidating the project as a model of educational innovation in the country.

He Ministry of Education has facilitated teaching resources specialized, while the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) has provided technical support and material to ensure proper implementation.
