Motocarros, the new trend in logistics

On the way to optimize processes and make them more efficient, lSustainability has opened an important step among companies.

The logistics sector has not been the exception, thus delivery vehicles have gone from being 100% traditional fuel such as gasoline or diesel, to hybrid or electric.
Even the size of the trucks has changed, too, depending on the needs of the company. Thus, motocarros became an essential tool for many companies seeking to reduce costs, be more efficient and sustainable with the environment.

In this regard, the Logyca Research Center, in alliance with Grupo UMA, carried out a study to evaluate the performance of Bajaj Maxima Cargo motorcars in last-mile distribution in Colombia, taking as a sample the cities of Bogotá, Medellín and Bucaramanga.

The study was carried out through the monitoring of logistics data, GPS and fuel sensor of the vehicles. The results showed that motorcars allow greater use of vehicle space, generate less occupation of public space by parking in bays or loading and unloading areas; and that, moreover, generates savings of up to 22% in costs per delivery, due to its low fuel consumption.

“This evaluation, carried out under real conditions, shows that motorcars are a beneficial alternative for cargo and last-mile transport in the country, because in addition to their efficiency, they have shown better environmental and logistical performance”indicated Rafael Gaviria, General Manager of Grupo UMA.

However, according to the researchers, companies can lose up to $800 million pesos a year due to the inappropriate use of vehicles for last mile transport or urban distribution.

According to the comparison made, the motorcars present an average performance greater than 52% versus a gasoline or diesel truck, in addition, with its use the impact on CO2 emissions is reduced between 40% and 50%.”, emphasizes the document.

“These vehicles have a load capacity of up to 515kg. They are designed to have greater stability in the curves and are resistant to extreme driving conditions, making them suitable for rural areas of the country.”, they manifest.

Another detail is that these motocarros in cities like Bogotá, where There are mobility restrictions, peak and plate does not apply.

“Due to the increase in demand for courier and package delivery services after the pandemic, motorcars have become an increasingly frequent option to solve distribution needs,” he concludes.
