The Mothers of April Association (AMA) recalls and continues its demand for justice for the murder of Jasson Ricardo Potoy, victim of an attack perpetrated by paramilitary forces against residents who were entrenched in the barrels on the edge of the Monimbó neighborhood, according to the organization. .
The 22-year-old died at 10:30 p.m. on June 3, 2018 after receiving “a firearm shot at the paravertebral lumbar level, which pierced the liver, kidney and spleen. His companions fought for more than half an hour to recover his body, since while the victim was dying in the street, he was beaten and dragged by his attackers », denounces the mothers’ organization.

Potoy was originally from Monimbó, Masaya. He earned his living as a craftsman in a shoe store. His mother María Melania Potoy describes him as a “cheerful, very popular young man. He always liked to hang out with his friends and watch soccer games on television ».
Jeisson is one of the 13 young people between the ages of 19 and 29 who were murdered in Masaya in this context. «On the first day –April 18, 2018– he told me that he did not like that they beat the elderly. He told me that he had to fight for them, for his grandfather », adds his mother.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) estimates that 355 people were killed in the context of the protests, according to the latest update made by the agency at the end of 2021. The mothers of April continue to call for justice for their children killed at the hands of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

The organization has denounced that four years after the civic rebellion they have “lived” under a police state, in constant harassment and intimidation, “especially during the anniversary of the murders of our relatives.”
The Mothers of April Association demands that the Ortega administration “create a special Prosecutor’s Office based on the recommendation of the GIEI, the repeal of the Amnesty Law, 996, and the Comprehensive Victim Assistance Law, 994; and the creation of an independent Truth Commission that respects the autonomous participation of victims as subjects of rights.”
