Mother’s Day is celebrated this Sunday, May 8 in Peru, in this sense, Kantar carried out a survey to find out what are the most desired gifts by Peruvians on this special date, as well as the changes in preferences that are have given at the regional level.
Unlike last year, this 2022 the most anticipated gift is a trip, which ranks first with 37.9% of preferences. “This is a very important change in expectations, since this option was in third place overall in 2021″, explains Francisco Luna, General Manager of Kantar Worldpanel Division.
This time, the second position is occupied by cell phones or tablets (32.6%) and in the third position are everything related to clothing, shoes and handbags (32.2%).
Other gift options for Peruvian women were electrical appliances (28.3%), spa and massages (18.7%), flowers (17.3%), perfumes, makeup and creams (16.2%), jewelry (12.1%), and others (12.4 %).
If we observe the preferences by socioeconomic levels, in NSE D and E cell phones and tablets lead, with 41% and 43%, respectively; and the second place is occupied by household appliances, with 39% and 35%.
However, in the A/B the travel alternative stands out; with 47%, followed by clothing, shoes and handbags, with 33%. Another interesting finding is that flowers rank third among the most expected gifts in SES C and D, with 18% and 21%, respectively.
Kantar’s study also offers an approach to how preferences have changed according to the mothers’ region of origin. Thus we have that in the north and south regions the most expected gift are cell phones and tablets, with 46% and 32%; while in the central region it leads clothing, shoes and handbags with 38%; and in Lima a trip is preferred as a Mother’s Day gift, with 39%.
