The Association of Mothers and Relatives of Detained-Disappeared Uruguayans condemned the vandalization perpetrated against the Memorial to the Detained-Disappeared, in Parque Vaz Ferreira, Cerro de Montevideo.
The work that was declared of national interest, obtaining awards for its architectural concretion at the American level. “The Memorial is a symbol of reparation to all Uruguayans who suffer from forced disappearance,” explained the organization, in a statement issued this Wednesday afternoon.
“For us it is a place where our relatives are recognized, and brought to our days as citizens committed to the reality of our country. The crime of which they are victims is one of the most aberrant in the history of humanity,” says another fragment of the text.
It also adds that “because of what has been said, it is that we hope that measures will be taken to care for and monitor the Park, so that it is a place for everyone. Because the future is with Truth, Memory, Justice and Never Again State Terrorism”, concludes the letter.
