MIAMI, United States. — A Cuban mother with a sick son stood with her belongings on a street in Old Havana, an event that ended with the intervention of law enforcement.
“She started taking things out. From a distance I heard her scream that she had her children sick, ”she declared to CubaNet a witness to the event.
According to the source, the woman’s protest brought with it the arrival of the area’s sector chief, as well as a police patrol.
The mother yelled that her son was sick and that she was sleeping on the floor. She also pointed out that she would not shout anti-government slogans such as “Homeland and life” so as not to give a political background to the difficult situation she faces.
“I’m not going to shout ‘Homeland and life’ so that later they don’t say. Desperation drove me to this. I’m on,” said the woman, visibly angry.
Another woman present at the scene placed chairs in the middle of the street so that no one walked by during the protest.
“The authorities managed to convince the woman to re-enter her home. Soon the street was open to traffic again,” the source said.
The protest took place on Cuba street, between Teniente Rey and Muralla, Old Havana, one of the municipalities with worst housing fund from the capital and where hundreds of families live in buildings in danger of collapsing.
