MIAMI, United States. — A mother of four minor girls in the province of Camagüey denounced the abandonment of which she has been a victim by the authorities of that territory.
This is María Rodríguez Carmenate, who survives with her daughters in a local that she occupied six years ago for not having a place to live.
“I’ve been in the same situation for a lot of years (…) I got here because I needed to, because I was filming with my four daughters and I didn’t have a home. I’ve been here for six years waiting for a solution, but they haven’t found a solution for me,” the mother told CubaNet.
The woman, who suffers from epilepsy, said she was afraid for her future and that of her daughters. She lives in fear that the state will evict her.
“I don’t know if the State one day gets me out of here, what will become of my daughters’ lives. ¿What am I gong to do? (…) I am a sick person. I have generalized epilepsy,” Rodríguez Carmenate told this newspaper.
The woman claims to have asked for help on several occasions from the Party and Government authorities in Camagüey, but her case has never received a favorable response. She even assures that local officials have criticized her for having become pregnant four times.
“If my daughters stay on the street, if the Cuban state one day takes me out of here, I think I’ll die,” lamented the woman.
As if that were not enough, the authorities have threatened to withdraw her checkbook because her four-year-old daughter is already going to school.
“I have my four daughters. I am alone. My daughters do not enter a salary because they all go to school, ”she added.
María Rodríguez Carmenate also does not have the possibility of buying a house due to the low income she receives.
