Mother of Dr. Jorge Herrera hopes "that justice is not diverted" and punishes the person responsible for the death of her son

Dr. Olga Chávez, mother of Dr. Jorge Ernesto Herrera Chavez, who died on June 16 in a traffic accident, hopes that there will be justice and that the person responsible for the death of his son be punished.

After the preliminary hearing —on Monday, June 20— where the former captain of the National Police Francisco Ramon Flores Donaire, presumed responsible for the doctor’s death —and that according to witnesses he was drunk—, Dr. Chávez told Article 66 that “thanks to God things are going within the framework of justice, we hope that they do not deviate from their course and that justice is really done”.

She pointed out that in the first appearance in the Managua courts, neither she nor any of Dr. Herrera’s relatives was present, however she reported that for the initial hearing scheduled for June 27, they will be at the trial.

Dr. Herrera’s mother affirmed that they will continue to demand justice “until the end, until true justice is done” and that the person responsible for the crime is prosecuted.

In a recent interview with this media outlet, Dr. Chávez described the act as a crime “because – a vehicle – is a weapon and whoever does not know how to use it and uses it commits a crime.”

«An alcoholic who comes driving a car at excessive speed and kills another person, that is a crime, because he knows what he is doing; he knows that if he’s drunk he shouldn’t be driving,” he added.

Police accused of homicide and exposure of people

In the preliminary hearing, Flores Donaire, 39, was presented before Judge Rolando Sanarrusia, of the Sixth Criminal District Court of Hearing of Managua, accused of the crimes of homicide and exposure of people.

According to the official media outlet El 19 Digital, the court read out why Flores is being accused, in addition to announcing the ruling on the preliminary hearing in the case filed against him.
